Can you really stop the fear of panic attacks? Can you stop the attack when you don't know when or where you will have another? Following are some helpful tips for panic attack sufferers.

Panic attacks, also known as anxiety attacks can happen without warning and without provocation. They can last from 10 to 20 minutes causing extreme fear and nervousness. Because the attack hits so suddenly, many people think they are having a heart attack. Some symptoms include an increased heart rate, sweats and feelings of extreme fear. The perceived danger may not be real but the body acts as if it is and goes into 'flee or fight' mode.

Do you suffer from panic attacks or do you know someone who does? Would you like to know some helpful tips for anxiety attacks that don't include medication? Nearly 3 million U.S. adults suffer from panic attacks, making it a serious health problem. One in four people will suffer a panic attack at sometime in their lives. Women suffer from panic disorder twice as much as men.

Take the following steps in controlling panic attacks once they start. Breath deeply in through your nose and out through your mouth. Starting with your next and shoulders, relax your body all the way down. Remind yourself that you are not in any danger, that everything will be alright soon. Try to take your mind off the mounting anxiety by talking to someone or doing some light activity.

Anxiety attacks are very scary. Once someone has an anxiety attack, the biggest fear is when will another come. If the attack happened somewhere like in a crowded elevator or while driving, the sufferer may want to avoid those situations to avoid having another attack. This can lead to phobias about certain situations which can get increasingly more serious. This can have a serious impact on day to day activities as the affected person relies more and more on safe surroundings which usually get smaller and smaller.

It's easier to stop a panic attack from happening than to stop it once it starts. Some helpful tips for panic attacks before they start are learning how to manage stress, getting regular exercise, following a healthy meal plan and getting enough sleep. It is possible for you to get over the fear of having another panic attack.

Don't live waiting to have another attack. The stress of waiting for another attack can actually bring one on. Start living without the fear of having another anxiety attack.
