How to Get Spills Out of Karastan Area Rugs

A Karastan carpet is the ideal way to make your home cozier. Empty floors are cold and uninviting and Karastan area rugs are warm and soft. But when you buy a nice Karastan area carpet and you invite a friend over and they accidentally spill wine, you don't want to make them feel like a complete idiot for ruining your Karastan carpet. This article will help.

1. Blot the stain with paper towels. This will soak up most of the wine.

2. Mix 1 teaspoon of carpet shampoo (dish soap works too) with 1 cup hydrogen peroxide. Soak a sponge in the concoction and blot the stain, squeezing out the winey sponge, and repeating until the stain is gone.

3. Sponge the spot with warm water and blot it dry with more paper towels.

4. Repairs: Sometimes fine rugs have spills or wear, and need to be repaired. A rug cleaning specialist will be able to make your rug look brand new, but it will cost you.

Maybe you want to wash your rug after years of dirt buildup. Here are some steps to do that:

1. Vacuum.

2. Add a mild cleaner to a bucket of water.

3. Beat the concoction until it begins to bubble and suds.

4. Spread the suds without getting any water on the rug.

5. Remove the suds with a lightly damp sponge.

6. Dry the rug flat.

Other care tips:

—Remove dirt by vacuuming 2 to 3 times weekly, and be careful when vacuuming the fringe, which when pulled, can stretch the Karastan carpet.

—Don't allow direct sunlight to play on the rug. This will fade it.

—Professional cleanings can help to keep the rug beautiful.

—If you encounter any other stubborn spills and the above treatments don't work, mixing soap or rug shampoo with a trace of vinegar can help.

A Karastan carpet has the craftsmanship of a handwoven rug, without the high price. Karastan area rugs are some of the most durable, strongest and most color safe rugs on the market. Laid on a large loom, wool is woven onto a cotton foundation through the rug, mimicking the hand weaving process.

Worsted wool is combed to rid the fibers from short, weak fibers, which take away from the strength and luxuriousness of the rug. Afterwards, the Karastan carpet is treated with three processes to enhance its beauty.

The tea wash layers color on the rug, giving it the feeling of a handmade rug. Then a luster wash removes the scales that occur naturally in the wool grains. This mutes slightly the colors used, and make the Karastan carpet look silkier. The final process is the Sultan's Slippers process. Before the Karastan area rugs go into the drying chamber, the rug is lightly caressed to give it the look that makes it seem like it is has been gently walked on.
