Let's take a look at exactly what Intrinsic Motivation really is. Intrinsic motivation is defined by researchers as the motivation that comes from within one's self in order to maintain or complete tasks by yourself. The goal of intrinsic motivation is to feel good about the completed task and reap the rewards of said task, whatever they may be. In reference to self operated business, an example may be the financial rewards provided when a task has been completed. It is what drives us to reach the goals we set for ourselves. This is an important part of any career, whether it is a business from home or the regular working world.
How does intrinsic motivation affect your daily work? Intrinsic motivation is the cornerstone of any success you may wish to achieve. Let's face it, if you are not motivated to complete set tasks then the results will most definitely be the detriment of whatever business you are in. Home based businesses are specifically affected by intrinsic motivation as they are completely reliant on the work you put into them. This means that you will reap what you sow, so it is important to keep yourself motivated and get the job done.
For most home based businesses motivation is the key to success. You are more likely to be motivated if you look at what it is that drives you. For me, it is the ability to express myself creatively. Remember, we each have our own little things that make us tick, and tapping into this ticking is the only way to exploit the intrinsic motivation inside us all. Sometimes our work may seem mundane and boring, this may lead us to distraction and we can become intrinsically motivated to look past our work at hand. This can be really discouraging and sometimes makes a mountain out of a mole hill. Try to focus on the work at hand, and set goals that naturally fulfill your own intrinsic motivational requirements. This is a technique that researches have found helps focus your motivation and gets the job done! If money is your thing, than set a financial goal and remember it when the road gets bumpy, keep your head up and reach for that financial goal - it will come.
One of the best tools we have as humans is the ability to dream. If we visualize our dreams and set out certain tasks that make that dream attainable, then we most certainly will get there eventually. Set tasks that are attainable, that way you will not be discouraged. It is important to stay positive and help feed your own intrinsic motivation.
