3 Tips to Choosing the Right Self Defense DVD

Choosing the right self defense DVD can be a difficult and frustrating task. There is nothing worse than buying a DVD, only to find out that it doesn't meet your needs. Fortunately, as long as you know what to look for, this does have to be a difficult process. In fact, if your only concern is protecting yourself, then getting your self defense training at home is often the best solution. It is often the most affordable and it can be done on your own schedule. Here are 3 tips that you can use to make finding the right study-at-home course easy.

The first thing that you need to do when choosing a self defense DVD is to consider your own limitations. Are you in peak physical condition? Don't worry, most of us aren't. While this doesn't mean that you cannot benefit from learning self defense, it doesn't mean that you need to choose a course that offers techniques that you can truly use. There is no point in learning a bunch of techniques that you cannot physically do. If you are not very strong, why would want to learn how to grapple? You probably wouldn't. If you only weigh 100 pounds, do you really want to trade punches with someone who is twice your size? By simply identifying your own strengths and weakness, it will be much easier to narrow down your available options and choose a great fit.

Another thing that you must consider before starting your self defense training is how much time and effort you really want to invest into it. If you want to learn only basic self defense techniques, then choosing a self defense DVD that relies on a complicated series of moves is not going work for you. One of the biggest problems that many people encounter is that they purchase a product that tries to teach them way too much. There is no point in choosing a system that will take years to master. While the idea of learning "20 precision punches to drop any attacker" is great in theory, it simply isn't practical. You don't want to kill someone, you simply want to keep yourself safe and get away from the situation once it arises.
