Those couples that have so looked forward to having a baby of their own only to find out time and time again they haven't been blessed will definitely related to my story. My wife and I had tried for years to start a family and despite seeking the help of several medical professionals we just had no luck.
One day while at the office I received a call from home. My wife hardly ever calls me at work so I knew it must have been important. She didn't give much information other than I was needed at home right now and that it just couldn't wait.
I pulled up to the house to see my wife crying yet laughing standing on the front step. She was so excited and I just couldn't imagine what was going on. Imagine my surprise when she yelled out that she was two months pregnant with a huge smile on her face. Needless to say I took the rest of the day off to celebrate!
All the men in my family have traditionally given gifts of charm bracelets, usually gold, and a collection of gold charms to their wives on the birth of their first child. I thought this was a great tradition and decided to keep it going.
Gold charms and bracelets weren't difficult to find but I needed to think of a list of items that were related to babies. Making a list of baby items took a bit of research, but the information on websites actually made this easier than I thought.
There were so many cute gold charms to choose from including a baby in a highchair, a baby sitting with diapers on and babies sleeping peacefully in cribs. Since I wasn't sure if we were having a boy or a girl I choose a variety of gold charms of all different babies.
Of course I had to put a few more gold charms on the bracelet that symbolized those must have baby accessories. I selected a gold charms for bracelets that include a pacifier, rattle and even a single diaper. These were the fun charms and I even found a little charm of building blocks.
I didn't tell my wife about the charm bracelet and my family was sworn to secrecy. The day our healthy, beautiful baby son was born I presented my wife with my bracelet and gift of gold charms. She loved it immediately, but now I have to start looking for more gold charms as I have just been told we are expecting again.
