Using Sofa Beds and Sleepers As Spare Beds

Sleepers and sofa beds always find a use as extra beds. No matter what size of house you live in there is always room for more sleeping accommodation. Whether it is a planned or an impromptu party, a family gathering or even if the weather gets bad and your visitors for the evening have to stay the night because they cannot drive home, there will eventually come a time when you have to sleep more people than you have beds for.

Certainly, spending one night on the floor might seem like fun to the kids - in fact many love it - although nobody can deny they would prefer sleeping on a sofa to a carpet any day! So if the sofa will occasionally be used as a bed, why not just buy a sofa bed or sleeper to begin with? There are many different types available, many at excellent prices.

Sleeper mattresses can be quickly unfolded into a bed when required, and just as easily converted back into a sofa again the next morning. This is a far more comfortable arrangement than sleeping on the floor, and an altogether preferable solution to the problem of an unexpected guest. They are ideal for small rooms such as attics, basements an small apartments, and can be used in your home office, living room or even your own bedroom.

How about the kids? They will want their friends in for a sleepover now and again, and rather than having to keep a spare bed taking up space on their bedroom, they are sure to love the idea of having their own sleeper sofa that converts into a spare bed when needed. Your children will feel really grown up if they had a sleeper sofa in their room rather than a space-guzzling extra bed that woudl hardly be use.

An example is a 72 inch long Signature sleeper, which incorporates a 72 x 52 x 5 inch comfortable innerspring mattress, and the mechanism is very easy to lift and return. You can also get sleepers incorporated into sectionals, and the Catnapper three-cushion sleeper sofas can be combined with corner units and recliners or gliders for the perfect queen bed solution to those extra overnight guests while offering the epitome of seating comfort.

These are just examples of what is available on the market, and by no means an exhaustive list. Smaller versions are available for children, but they take up so little room as sofas that you are as well purchasing the full sized version so that your kids don't grow out of it. It doesn't seem but an instant that have turned from tiny tots into full-sized teenagers - and why is it that our kids always seem to outgrow us?

That's just another of life's little mysteries, although maybe we are overfeeding them! Whatever the reason, there seems no point any more in purchasing the small size of anything because our kids are going to need the largest size available in the store! So start saving now - you have been warned!

Most sleepers will be fine with your current bed linen, ans they are no more difficult to make up than an ordinary bed. They are also comfortable! If you are thinking of a back-killing lumpy uncomfortable mattress then you would be wrong. Perhaps that was true in bygone days, but today's sleepers are large an extremely comfortable: you get them up to queen bed size and larger.

Then consider the cost. Sleepers are fairly inexpensive to begin with, so think of the value you get with a sofa and bed in one. Just consider how it would cost you to purchase a separate sofa, bed and mattress and then compare that to the price of a single sofa bed. Even a mattress for a bed can cost you more than a sofa bed would. They come in a wide variety of styles, are upholstered with a wide range of materials including leather, and are available in a number of fabric designs.

You are sure to be able to find a sleeper that suits your current upholstery style and room decor. They are no longer large clunky things that look as if they are hiding a bed: modern sofa beds are sleek and streamlined and you simply cannot tell that this is the furniture version of a Transformer - now there's a selling point for the kids if you need one!

So if you believe that you will have the need for a spare bed sometime in the future, or are sick listening to people moaning about having to sleep on the couch or even the floor, don't waste your space with a spare bed. Sleeping sofas, sofa beds or sleepers, whatever you call them, are extremely economical, comfortable and can be used anywhere in the house. Nobody bothers where they sleep - it's what they sleep on that matters.
