Are you trying to get in shape but you can't really seem to find the motivation you need to get out the door on a regular basis? If you are like most people, finding the motivation you need to develop a more consistent workout routine can be fairly difficult. The fact of the matter is, consistency is key when working out. So how do you become more consistent? There are a few things you can do in order to develop a more regular running routine.
First off, you want to make it more fun. People tend to put too much emphasis on working out hard. You do not have to workout hard in order to get in a good workout. Simply being more active more regularly will help you to get going down the road to a healthier lifestyle. If you dread working out and running, you will be less likely to get out on a regular basis. This can be hard for you to change your mental attitude but might not be as hard if you can think outside the box.
An easy way for you to start making running more enjoyable is to simply not push yourself as hard. If you can feel more comfortable one day, you might be more inclined to get out the door the next. If you work really hard and try and run 7 miles one day, but don't do anything for the next few, you are much better off running 4-5 miles or even less for all of those days. This will take a lighter toll on your body and will help you to be more mentally fresh too. Working out doesn't have to be painful. If you can still maintain some level of comfort while still pushing your boundaries, you will be working out more effectively. You will be keeping your body and mind fresh while still able to build on your efforts.
Another easy way to make running more fun is to start jogging with a portable music player. A portable music player will help you to have more fun because if you are listening to your favorite tunes, it will be less boring. Portable music players are becoming lighter and lighter and seem to be getting cheaper and cheaper. One drawback of running with a portable music player is that you might not be able to really hear everything you need to hear in order to stay safe. If you have your music up too loud, you will not be able to hear vehicles coming. It is important to keep your music at a level that is low enough that will still enable you to hear things. Running doesn't have to be boring and monotonous. If you can take a few steps in order to make the workout process more fun, you will most likely be able to get out and run on a more consistent basis. Running is fun and easy if you make it fun and easy.
