Making Homemade Candles -- A Fun and Rewarding Hobby

Who told you that you have to spend at least 5 bucks for a nicely scented and colored candle when it's simple to make homemade candles at home, by yourself! Making candles in the comfort of your own home can turn out to be a fun hobby, whether you want to create some for yourself to enjoy or make them as gifts for your loved ones. This craft is an awesome way for you to make sure that you have candles that have the perfect blend of fragrance and color that will suit your taste, plus, it's a wonderful way for you to let your creativity shine through!

Making homemade candles normally requires a bit of effort and experimentation, but once you discover how to make them the right way, its well worth the effort! When I started out creating my own candles, it was at the onset of the Yankee Candle explosion. I am one of those who find the scent of commercially-available candles overpowering and highly scented. Yet, I don't want to buy those boring and plain white candles. So I embarked on a "quest" and started experimenting. I wanted to create the perfect candle - relaxing, colorful and mildly scented! The more I experiment with candles, the more I find myself addicted to this amazing craft.

The great thing about making your own candles is that you need not buy a whole bunch of equipment to start. You just need a heat source (your stove will do), something to melt your wax in, some wicks, wax, scent and color are all you'll ever need! If you are ready to take things to the next level, you can buy a candle mold at a store. This can be a great guide, but it is really not necessary.

My favorite part about making candles at home is that you are free to customize them however you like. When you shop for candles, you'll find that you're normally stuck with only a single color for a particular scent. For instance, coffee and cinnamon smells might be brown while ocean scents may be blue and melon might be green. What if you are a big fan of honeydew scents but are not fond of the color green? If you plan to purchase your candles from the store then you are out of luck! However, if you make your own candles, you can make your lavender scented candles red and your melon candles purple, and choose colors that will be a nice complement to your home décor.

Finally, you have a license to play around and experiment to your heart's content! Go crazy and change up the shapes, colors, sizes and scents. If you mess up, you can always melt the wax again and create another one. There are lots of crafts out there that will give you a chance to enhance your creativity, but creating homemade candles is by far, one of the best since you can literally make it up as you go along. You need not follow a rigid formula or pattern that needs to be watched. Just add some fragrance, color and a dose of creativity, and see what happens!
