How Simple Is Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking is not only one of the easiest ways of saving your favorite websites and bookmarks, but it is also very easy. There are many different social bookmarking sites on the web today. Social bookmarking has become such a popular way to save and share your websites with others that many companies have developed social bookmarking sites.

The choice of which social bookmarking site you choose will depend on your personal preferences. Some of the social bookmarking sites specialize more in social news while others are perfect for your every day browsing. You may want to do a little research of your own to see which ones appear to best meet your needs, especially if you're a novice at social bookmarking.

Delicious is probably one of the oldest and, still the most popular, social bookmarking site. I don't necessarily recommend one over the other, but for purposes of learning and helping you to get started, I'm going to use Delicious, also known as del.icio.us, as an example.

One of the first things you'll do when you get to the Delicious site is open up a free account, which is simple and fast. You'll be asked to add a couple of buttons on your web browser. These buttons are very important because they'll make it easier for you to add bookmarks. You'll have the Delicious button, the bookmarks button and the tag button.

The Delicious button is to get you to the Delicious site quickly without having to go to your favorites or type the URL in the address bar. The tag button is what you'll use when you want to save a website to the social bookmarking site, which in this case is Delicious. Keep in mind that you can choose any number of social bookmarking sites. The bookmarks button will provide you with instant access to all your bookmarks.

Saving a website is easy with the use of the tag button. Let's say you're reading an interesting article on vegetable gardening and you want to save it or share it with others. You click on the tags button and a screen will pop up verifying that you want to save this page and asking for tags.

Tags are little keywords that will make it easier for you and others to find your bookmarks. In this instance, you may want to use vegetables, gardening or growing vegetables as your tags. You can use one tag or several. The more you use, the easier it will be for others to find your site. Because you have all these tags, you'll find it much easier to get to your bookmarks when you have several bookmarks.

The wonder of social bookmarking is that others can also find your favorite websites by typing in your tags. However, you also have the option of making your bookmarks private if they're not something you wish to share with the world. Check out these sites and find what you've been missing by using conventional bookmarking methods!
