Send Flowers: A Few Flower Facts

Copyright (c) 2010 Nadine Davis

The act of sending flowers to someone is usually an expression of some emotion like love or sympathy, or an act of contrition to make amends for some bad behaviour or poor choices that have hurt or offended another person. The choice of gift itself i.e. flowers, is in its own way, a softening approach, as there is nothing quite as perfect and beautiful as an exquisitely formed blossom, of any type, to soften a heart or express an emotion. The way in which the flowers are sent also tells its own story, as they often have cards included with heartfelt messages inside and are packaged with care to preserve their life.

When it comes to the selection of flowers has a reputation for being able to supply almost any type of floral arrangement. Note however that there is cultural sensitivity around sending flowers. It is inappropriate, for example, in the Muslim community, to send flowers on the passing of a family member. Some colours are also inappropriate in certain cultures so it's always wise to check before ordering.

There are a number of universal celebrations and occasions in every year when it is entirely appropriate to send flowers:

=> Birthdays - whether male or female, people love having flowers sent to them on their birthday.

=> New baby - "baby" flowers are often accompanied by a pink or blue balloon and a soft toy.

=> Congratulatory occasions - because of an individual or group outstanding achievement, receiving flowers, especially if send by someone significant in their life, will increase their feelings of achievement.

=> Engagement and wedding - both are joyful, exciting and nervous times as two people make a commitment and set out on a journey together.

=> Valentine's Day - a big day for a florist. Red roses are always a popular favourite, but many others are popular too, especially when accompanied by a girls second best friend, chocolate!

=> Mother's Day - to symbolise everything wonderful about a mother. Love, warmth, sacrifice, compassion - all eloquently expressed in a bouquet of chrysanthemums.

=> Mourning - sending flowers to a bereaved family is a way, not only of expressing difficult feelings, but also of adding colour and beauty to a sorrowful environment.

When sending flowers to a workplace or hospital, space to display them will be limited, as will containers. For these occasions, arrangements in their own container are best. If a card is to accompany the flowers, think carefully about the message, as strangers may have the opportunity to read it.

There are many circumstances where sending flowers is the ideal gift, and in the sending of them there are many different ways in which to achieve this. For advice though, using a florist is the best option if you want immediate face to face answers.
