There are many different predictions about the end of the year 2012, 12/21/2012 to be exact. Ancient people such as the Mayans made the long calendar, which started around 3,000 BC and will end on the 2012 date.
While many people may believe that this marks the end of the world, every time we change our 12 month calendar over to a new one should we be fearful of the same thing?
There are and have been many present and ancient predictions about this date. Some religious scholars tell tales of Armageddon happening, and Nostradamus also talked about the end of times around this date.
While many Nostradamus predictions have some revelations and truths in the modern world, you can't say that the end of the world is at hand.
While religious fanatics have predictions that these are the last days, it seems that every time there is some significant date in history, it is Armageddon all over again.
When this date comes and goes, perhaps the most significant present and ancient prediction will be that there is going to be a spiritual enlightenment. All those people who believed in their church leaders will have finally had enough of false prophecies, and turn elsewhere for guidance instead.
Some present and ancient predictions have some truth to them. There is going to be an up rise of sun spots, and there is certainly some kind of global climate changes that are going to happen.
The sun works on an eleven year cycle, eleven years when there is great activity, and eleven where this activity drops down to just about nothing. We are nearing the end of this downward cycle.
It is also said that this upwards cycle is going to be one of the worst in a long time, and there will be much more activity than we have seen in our lifetimes.
Does this mean that some solar flare of extreme magnitude is going to reach out and flash fry us where we stand? Not likely. While this can be an unfounded fear, solar flares to account for a lot of electronic disturbances on and around our planet.
The often cause dramatic effects like the Aurora Borealis, disturbances in communications satellites, etc. One of the worst fears, that may indeed happen at some point is a solar flare that cause a massive electromagnetic pulse, or EMP, that effectively shorts out and kills all electronic devices around the globe, putting us back 100's of years.
While some present and ancient predictions about the now infamous 2012 time line can be connected with real things that can happen, many are simply a false hood and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Things like that there will be a celestial line up of the planets, and that there will be some gravitational phenomenon that will tear us apart is a myth, and NASA says no such thing is in our future, and if there was, the gravitational effects would be negligible.
The whole thing about some rogue planet coming our way and smashing into us like the SciFi book When Worlds Collide is only another myth. If this were true, by now we would be able to see it with the naked eye.
