It is important for patients to know the proper guidelines of how to choose a chiropractor that is a good fit for you. If you do choose correctly you will be able to benefit for the rehabilitative capabilities of this form of alternative medicine.
Here are the 5 Things You Should Look For when choosing a chiropractor:
1. Respect for the Patient's Time! The worst situation is where you are always on time for your scheduled appointment with the doctor and you end up waiting and waiting and waiting. This in my opinion is unacceptable to me.
I understand that unforeseen circumstances come. In that is the case I always inform my patient that I will be running late and give them the option to reschedule if they would like. Most importantly, I try to do everything in my power so this situation does not arise in the first place! So when you are choosing a chiropractor make sure you are dealing with someone who not only values their own time but also their patient's time.
In today society we all have places to be and people to see, it's nice to know that your chiropractor respects your time.
2. Respect for the Patient's Well Being! If there is a situation where something is wrong with the patient and it requires fixing, you want to make sure that the doctor you chose will be straight with you and tell you the truth. I once visited a dentist and he was too timid to tell me that something was terribly wrong with my teeth and the extent of the problem at hand. I would rather the doctor tell me and lay all the cards on the table so I can understand all my options.
I promise to respect your well being when you come in to my clinic, which means you will have a detailed exam and consultation so we can understand the extent of your problem and deal with it face on. Then I'm going to be upfront with you and tell it to you straight and leave it up to you to decide how you wish to proceed with your care. Run, not walk, from any practitioner who won't tell it to you straight with you in plain English.
When it comes to your pain, you need solutions someone to tell you straight up what needs to be done and how it can be done. That's the secret to getting you better fast. Sometimes people don't want to hear the truth, but in the long run it is to your benefit.
3. Recommendations and Referrals! In an ideal world, a recommendation from a friend or family member is helpful place to start your search for a good chiropractor. (This isn't always possible, I realize.) Second best is ask your doctor if he has patient reviews/testimonials or letters of recommendation. Often these will be posted on his or her website. Now in my case I have many testimonials all on my website. If you would like you may go ahead and see why patient rave about my new revolutionary pain technique.
4. The Warning Signs!
On top of knowing what qualities to look for in a chiropractor, here are a few danger signs that I should warn you to avoid in case your chiropractor exhibits them:
* Avoid chiropractors who require you to sign a long-term treatment contract. Although chiropractic care is relatively safe, you have no reason to be tied up to a particular chiropractor for any long-term treatment unless your condition requires for it.
* Avoid chiropractors who discourage you to opt for other preventive treatments outside of chiropractic care, such as acupuncture or massage. Generally most alternative technique complement each other. A qualified doctor who is concerned about your health and recuperation must be open to the best possible means of treating your disease or condition. In order to do that he/she has to be open to other suggestions if it will help his/her patient.
* Doctor is making claims that even you believe is not feasible or true at all or who tries to employ scare tactics to convince the patient to agree on a treatment plan. You want to make sure that the treatment plan that you sign up for is exactly the amount of time you need. Because I always say the faster we get you out the office the faster you heal. My job is to heal you in fast, efficiently, effectively and in a timely manner.
These are usually some tell-tale signs of a chiropractor who is less concerned about the patient's welfare and is only aiming to attain monetary benefits. Be sure to keep an eye on these things.
5. Speed Of Service!
When I first opened my clinic, I used to spend way too much time with new patients. I used to think that taking my time and spending some time equated to "good service in the eyes of my patients. Boy was I wrong about this! It wasn't until a patient said to me nicely: "You know, if you wouldn't mind speeding things up, I might actually come in more often, it's just taking too much time out of my day".
I finally understood that just like no one likes to wait longer than necessary at a Bank or to order your Coffee Bean coffee, likewise people wish to get in and out of their doctors office in a timely fashion, where they can continue their day. This is what I strive for, whenever possible, and my patients have told me repeatedly that they appreciate such efforts. They always thank you me because I am very considerate of their time.
In summary, those are the 5 things to look for when choosing a chiropractor! If you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I love questions and I do not mind answering them as well.
Warmest Regards, Dr. Yoav Stein D.C.
