Would you like to lose a little weight but just can't seem to psych yourself up mentally? An easy way for you to make running fun is to change your attitude toward the process. What if you can do something a little differently that will make you enjoy running? There are a few easy changes you can make in order to give you a whole new attitude toward working out.
A common mistake most people make when starting to run is that they try to do more then they should right away. Like building a house, you need a solid foundation in order for you to get the best result. Working out and running is the same way. You don't want to build the roof before you build the walls. Running wise, you need to start off small, at a manageable level. If you know that you only have to run for a certain amount of time each day, then you will be more likely to get out and run. Set a goal time limit of something that you know you can achieve. Don't say "I'm going to run for 3 miles." If you have a certain distance goal you are trying to run the first few days, you can be setting yourself up for failure.
With trying to run a certain distance, you could be pushing your body harder in order to get done faster. This is not the best thing you should be doing for your body, especially in the beginning. Setting a time goal will ensure that you run at a comfortable pace without over doing it. Using this approach can be beneficial because you know you will be done running in a short amount of time. If you set your goal of running for 15 minutes your first day, even before you start you know you will be done running in 15 minutes. If you set your goal to run for 2 miles, you don't know if that will take you 12 minutes or 20 or even more. You don't really have any idea of when you will be done. If you know that you will be finished with your workout in a certain time, you can devote that much time to running everyday. Fifteen to thirty minutes, or even an hours worth of running can easily be added to most peoples' schedules.
Running doesn't have to be something that you dread doing. If you can enjoy the process a little more, you will be more likely to develop a daily routine. Running on a more consistent basis is the key to getting in shape and losing weight faster. Most people have the wrong attitude toward running. If you can make it a process that you enjoy doing, you will begin to look forward to getting out the door and running each day. Once you start to see some progress, you will be more and more motivated. Change your attitude toward running and see just how much easier it can be.
