There are many ways you can go about creating products that will help you make money, and dominate a particular niche. Doing market research to find out what types of products are hot is a great place to start. Constantly and continuously searching the internet for the latest trends will make the search for a profitable product much easier. You might even want to consider conducting a focus group to find out what needs people are willing to pay money to have taken care of. The majority of people try to come up with a single product that will take a particular market or niche by storm. Sometimes this works, but not without a lot of work and frustration. An alternate way you could go about getting ideas for a great product is to think along the lines of products that can enhance the experience of another product. By doing so, you will greatly cut down on the amount of competition that your product would encounter, and may help the longeviety, and market lifespan of your produc! t.
An enhancer product is a product, external to the original product in question, that enhances the experience of another product. An enhancer product can also be used as a stand alone product, but many would associate that product with something else. An example is cake. Cake can be eaten by itself, and is usually treated as a stand alone product, however if you go to a birthday party, most people expect ice cream if they know there will be cake. The cake helps to increase the pleasure of eating the ice cream, and also the other way around. Here are some guidelines on how to develop an enhancer product:
- Brainstorm a list of products that many people use where the experience could easily be enhanced by using another product in tandem with the first product.
- From the brain stormed list of products to be enhanced, narrow the original list down to about ten products you feel are the most widely used.
- Using the new narrowed down list as a guide, create a list of qualities of the products on the list that could be enhanced by another product, either in existance now, or one that could be invented.
- From the qualities list, think of products that already exist that could enhance the experience. Also, brainstorm a list of ideas for products that could be created to add value to various products.
- Select between 2 to 5 items that you could easily produce and create. If the enhancing product already exists, think about what you could do to the enhancing product to make it even better at enhancing other products.
It will be much easier to focus your energies on the product creation process once you have created a list of product ideas to work from,. Again, you are looking for something that enhances the experience of another product, or even a life experience (ex: Dolby surround sound helps to enhance the experience of watching a movie). By taking out the time to formulate your ideas on paper, you will be well on your way to developing a product that will be welcomed by the marketplace.
