People who sell diamonds have their own reasons in doing so. You do not want to keep anything that will remind you of that nasty divorce or a failed relationship. Also, when problems arise and you are in need of cash immediately, your precious stash of diamonds may be your only saving grace. Whatever the reason there is, the important thing is to get the best value for your precious stones.
Time is of the Essence
When you want to sell diamonds, the way to get the highest possible value for it is to not be in a hurry to dispose of it. You should check out all the possible options before you let go of that precious stone. There are things that you can do to be able to maximize your earnings in the sale.
Having the Diamonds Appraised
The first thing to do is to get an appraiser so that you will be able to know the value of your stone. Don't get just one appraisal. Go to at least 2 or 3 appraisers so that you will get an accurate value. If you don't know any appraisers, you can get a list of those located in your area from any of the association of appraisers such as Appraiser's Association of America, American Society of Appraisers and International Society of Appraisers. You can also refer to your local Yellow Pages for available appraisers in your area.
When having your diamond appraised, get to know its Rapport Value. This usually reflects the value price that the stores are willing to pay for the quality of your diamond. This is usually of lower value compared to those that you see displayed in the stores. You do not have to worry about this especially when you know that the quality of the diamond that you are selling is high.
Where to Sell the Diamonds
When you plan to sell diamonds from your jewelry collection, the first persons that you can approach are your friends and relatives. They are the ones who might be able to give you the best deal for the stones that you are selling. They know what you are going through so you just might be able to get the price that you want. If none in your circle of friends are interested in your pieces then you can start to look for other options where you can sell diamonds such as posting ads about it.
Another place that you can go to sell diamonds is the jewelry stores. You just have to be careful though when dealing with them. Make sure that you do not let your precious gems out of your sight. There is a possibility that they might exchange it for a stone that is of lesser value. Show to them the jeweler's appraisal so that they would know how much to offer. If the value that they offer is about 60 to 805 of the Rapport value then you can consider it to be a good deal. But when they offer you price that is less than 60% then politely decline their offer and look for another jewelry store to sell diamonds for that is not a fair price at all.
If what you have in possession can be considered to be top of the line, you can consider selling it to the famous auction houses like Sotheby's or Christie's. For sure, you would be able to get a good price for your diamonds.
To sell diamonds is not an easy thing to do especially when they have sentimental value. However when the need arises, you can be assured that you can turn to these stones to save you from whatever predicament you may be in.
