Headache - Chiropractic Headache Treatment and Relief

Chiropractic care is another way, and it is natural and completely drug-free. Many people report their headaches improve immediately, especially if it is stemming from the neck area of the spine. During a spinal adjustment, the headache can be relieved immediately, but follow up care treatments are necessary.

Types of Headaches

Headaches normally fall into three categories. These include the Cluster Headache, Migraines, and Tension headaches. A cluster headache is very painful, can last for months at a time, and then may stop completely; sufferer's lives are greatly hindered by these headaches. Symptoms include unbearable pain around the eyes, face, neck, shoulders, and head. These are often one-sided headaches, stuffy nose, and swelling on the affected side of the face.

Migraines on the other hand are chronic headaches that can last for several hours to days. The sufferer of migraines seeks out quiet and dark areas to help reduce some of the pain. Symptoms include throbbing pain, the pain worsens with any kind of activity, interferes with work, sensitivity to sound and light, and causes nausea or vomiting.

Tension headaches are the most common form of headaches and can cause moderate to severe pain. Many of these headaches stem from muscle contractions in and about the neck and shoulders.

Chiropractic and Headache Relief

All of the various types of headaches can be helped through chiropractic treatments. Even though suffering from daily headaches often find relief with chiropractic treatments. If you suffer from chronic headaches, you owe it to yourself to try the services of a chiropractor in order to find a natural treatment route. Most chiropractic doctors today give you various stretching exercises to do when you are at home or work to help prevent the onset of a headache. Even those that have been skeptical that spinal manipulation coupled with trigger point therapy could relieve their headaches are finding relief.

When you make an appointment at your local chiropractor's office, you can expect your first visit to take longer because the doctor will need to take several x-rays and gather your patient history and ask about your symptoms in detail. He or she than constructs a treatment plan, which requires several visits in order to receive the treatments. For those suffering from several chronic headaches, you can expect your chiropractic doctor will want to see you more in the beginning. As you find the needed relief, the treatments taper off and are less, frequent. If the patient responds well to the lesser treatment course, then the chiropractor continues on this path. However, if the pain returns, then the treatments are bumped up so that they patient can receive more treatments.

The beauty of chiropractic treatment is there are no side-effects and the spine can be manipulated as much as the doctor sees fit in order to provide the needed pain relief.
