What are low GI carbohydrates?
Low GI carbohydrates are foods with a lower ranking according to the Glycemic index. The glycemic index or GI is a system formulated for classifying carbohydrates in foods, according to how fast they raise our blood-sugar levels.
Food with a high GI value causes the blood glucose to rise very quickly.
There are different levels of GI foods.
1.High GI Foods (above 70), that cause a rapid rise in blood-glucose levels.
2.Intermediate GI Foods (between 55-69) causing a medium rise in blood-glucose.
3.Low GI Foods (lower than 54 ), causing a slower rise in blood-sugar.
So why is it important to choose low GI food over high GI food?
