Supercross Motorcycle Racing, What a Thrill

You may not have heard about supercross motorcycle racing before, it is a relatively new sport that is really gaining in popularity. So, what is it? Supercross racing is a fun and exciting motor sport, full of action and all the thrills and spills you would expect from any sort of motorcycle racing. You may already be a motorsports fan already and if this is the case, you are sure to enjoy supercross motorcycle racing. Like all motorsports, it is highly competitive and full of all that adrenalin you would expect to see and enjoy.

With supercross, the bikes are specialist off road racing bikes which are similar to those used for motocross racing. They need to be robust enough to stand the rigours of racing around a tough technical track. Unlike motocross, supercross takes place in a stadium with an artificial track rather than outdoors over a course of natural obstacles. There will be a series of jumps and other obstacles to overcome and the track is only around 6 metres wide. With a confined space this makes for very exciting racing with competitors bunching at corners and trying to over or undertake where possible. Courses are unforgiving and very technical requiring a huge amount of skill and balance to negotiate. All the racers try to get the edge on the competition but the rules are tight and must be obeyed. Often there are a series of heats before a final race due to the constraints of space and safety being paramount; it is only safe to let so many riders go at any one time. Being indoo! rs, spectators have a great view from the stands and can see all the action. Sometimes racers will jump above the crowds during a race, depending on how big and where jumps are positioned. This makes for a very exciting and thrilling atmosphere. There are sometimes big screens up as well so that you can see all the action up close. Commentary will give you all the action as it happens - just think how exhilarating an evening of supercross motorbike racing could be with all the incidents going on during racing and the atmosphere of the audience around you.

Supercross motorcycle racing is a professional sport but there are also races for amateurs which can be just as exciting to watch. There are small local tracks opening up all the time and you might find one very close to you. There will be events for men, women and children with different grades depending on your experience, all the way up to national championships. If you have taken part in motocross, you might like to have a go at supercross to really test your skills. Or you may just prefer to watch others and enjoy the spectacle. Motorcycle racing comes in many forms and there are enthusiasts for all formats. Each one has its stars and fans have their favourites. There are governing bodies for each sport and you can discover more from their official websites.
