What is a Backlink and How Can You Get Them

So what are backlinks and why are they so useful to the internet marketer? They are sometimes called inbound links and this should give you a clue. Basically they are links on one website which lead back to another website and this can be YOURS of course.

They are the lifeblood of Search Engine positioning. Perhaps the only way to be at the top of search engines without paying large advertising costs is to have a large number of backlinks.

So how do we go about building a large number of backlinks to our website? We should, of course, be looking to obtain high quality and high page ranking backlinks. There are in fact many ways that this can be done:-
-Writing articles -Submitting your website to Internet directories
-Making comments on blogs
-Posting on forums
-By using social bookmarking sites etc.

Obviously after writing an ARTICLE you need to get it published!!

You can do this yourself or use one of the many companies out there who will publish your article for you. So do a search for them. There are also companies which will write your articles as well as publish them for you. Naturally there will be a charge for this service.

As with articles you can SUBMIT YOUR WEBSITE TO INTERNET DIRECTORIES yourself or get one of the companies who specialize in this field to do it for you. You might like to read my report on this subject for more information

As the name suggests a "SOCIAL BOOKMARKING SITE" often has a great community following thus making them very popular. Users can save favourite websites and in this way you can get a lot of your backlinks. The "bookmarks" of favourite sites can be saved to a list which can be private or listed publicly. In the latter case everyone can see it.

Take care when making comments on BLOGS or POSTING ON FORUMS that you follow the normal etiquette procedures of the blogs and forum sites and don't upset others by "in your face" advertising. You are trying to build up relationships which should be mutually beneficial. When you do make an offer it should be of the "oh by the way this has helped me" type not of the "you must buy this or else" character. That way you are much more likely to get someone to backlink to your site.

I hope that this little article has helped you understand at least the principle of backlinks.

To YOUR success
