Afraid of Danger

Fight Danger

It is a biological response to "Fight or Flight" in a stressful situation. Physiologists define stress as how the body reacts to a stressor, real or imagined, a stimulus that causes stress.

Sometimes fear comes with not having the tools to combat stress. The effects of stress occur in stages.

The first stage causes an Alarm to go off in our body. That is usually when the threat or stressor is identified or realized. The body's stress response is in a state of alarm. During this stage adrenaline will be produced in order to bring about the "Fight or Flight" response.

The second stage deals with Resistance how we cope with stress. When the stressor persists it is necessary for the body to employ some resistance. As part of a coping mechanism, the body begins to adapt to the environment. In most instances, the body can only handle so much strain before its resources are gradually depleted.

The third and final stage is Exhaustion. At this point the body is unable to function efficiently causing the heart rate to go up and sweat to build up as in the first stage of stress. The body is equipped to handle only so much stress. When the body is not functioning properly, i.e. responding to stress efficiently, it causes our immune system to weaken.

How do we keep our body from shutting down during stress or a dangerous situation?

First, we must learn to take care or our physical and mental health. Then it becomes easier to use our resources, life experiences, and skills in order to fight any battle put in front of us. I highly recommend placing your physical health a top priority on your resource list. Without your mind and body working properly, any great skills or experiences you have may be difficult to utilize when needed.

How to protect yourself from being victimized?

Be aware of the stress factors and your surroundings. Be familiar with your environment. Be vigilant. Plan your escape before disaster strikes. Prepare for the worst. In times of major catastrophe or economic hardship crime rates go through the roof.

When we learn to protect ourselves, friends and family our lives become very different. Learn how to fight against stress to enhance your ability to protect and serve your family and friends. It is an advantage worth having.

Don't be afraid to fight back. Think of all the people you care about and how much they care about you. Remember, the battle is never-ending whether you are going to sit it out or fight it out. It is your choice, and the choice to do something about it maybe the thing that saves your life or someone else's.
