To those who are just pregnant, let me first say: "congratulations!" You are at the beginning of a wonderful and exciting, yet slightly daunting and scary, journey into motherhood!
Really the best advice for those who are just pregnant is to "expect the unexpected. We all like to be in control of what is happening to us and our bodies, but it is good to be realistic and accept that especially during pregnancy there some things which are totally out of our control!
As your little one develops inside of you, your body undergoes many changes. To ensure you and your partner enjoy this wonderful experience, set no demands or high expectations for yourself! Pamper yourself in as many ways as you can - in nine months or less this may be a lot more difficult when your baby becomes reality!
However, please don't misunderstand pampering to mean you can eat as much as you like, whenever you like, or that you can sit around all day on the couch with your feet up. This might be enjoyable at the time, but will not in any way assist you during the pregnancy, the delivery of your baby or your recovery from both. It is highly recommended that if you are not experiencing any health concerns with your pregnancy that you continue to exercise as much as possible. It is not the aim to get fit or fitter, however, to maintain your level of fitness would be good. There are many recommended exercises for pregnancy that will prepare you for the birth of you baby and assist you on the road of recovery from the birth.
It is also highly important to watch your diet - not to starve yourself and try to maintain your weight this way, but to ensure you are providing your body and your baby with the necessary nutrients for this time. Your baby has requirements for its development and if it does not receive them from your diet or supplements, it will not hesitate to take it from the mothers body. Thus you may well suffer deficiencies which could affect your health during pregnancy.
But still, the advice was to pamper yourself as much as possible during this time. Do get as much sleep as you can - take that afternoon nap if possible! Take time out with your partner or with your friends. Splurge on new clothes that are flattering and make you feel sexy. Be proud of your baby bump and don't hide it under big frumpy clothes! Go for massages and facials and enjoy this very special time of expecting your child.
If you are just pregnant, remember nine months is really only 40 weeks. Your baby will be here before you know it and you don't want to miss this wonderful time of expectation!
